The pure wisdom of the buddha teaches us that fear and desire are obstacles to enlightenment. Not only that, but fear and desire are the causes of most of human suffering. the truth of these statements are self evident. if they are not so to you, i invite you to experiment, within yourself, and being intellectually honest, you will find, with enough time, no argument against it.
so what does it say about people or institutions that prey on our fears and desires to manipulate us? if they need us to be filled with fear and desire to serve their own ends, then they have no interest in our attaining true wisdom or enlightenment. so they consider their own concerns to be paramount to yours, if it is to their benefit that you not discard the shackles of fear and desire so their purposes can be served.
this is why you should always be wary of both the carrot AND the stick offered up by traditional, abrahamic religions. they will dangle the carrot, a symbol of your own desire, to manipulate you to their own ends. this desire they offer is to never end. to never die, but to live forever in a paradise, with all your accpeted loved ones, once you've passed away in the material world. sound too good to be true ? of course it does, because it is!
well, that's when stick comes out, to bully you. it teaches you to be afraid of death, afraid of god's wrath, to be afraid of an abject punishment, in the form of punishement by eternal fire. again, more lies.
it seems to me that if you consider yourself a christian, you have some very serious questions you have to ask yourself about the contradictory and generally absurd nature of your religion. and if you're intellectually honest with yourself, i can't see how you could come to any other conclusion but to jettison your faith to the garbage bin of history where it belongs.

christian salvation isn't salvation at all, it's a hostage crisis where you're the victim; a mafia "protection" racket. why have a god so jealous, so petty, that has to threaten you if you reject him? are you unable or unwilling to see the insanity in this belief structure? how is this ok to you? how is it ok to think that if Adolph Hitler repented before death, he would go to heaven, yet all his jewish victims will suffer an eternity of torture? what kind of pretzel logic must you navigate to then think "ok, my god has zero concept of justice, but i'll worship him anyway". why not, in the face of such clear absurdity do you not come to the obvious conclusion that the idea of god is so flawed that it must be man made? i can not for the life of me understand why people believe such obvious b.s., except for an extreme and unshakable childhood indoctrination, or to be so motivated by the fear of death as to find the finite nature of our lives utterly unthinkable, or the narcissism that they are "too special of a snowflake" for their consciousness to NOT live on forever, or just plain cowardice in the fear of facing eternal hellfire to allow themselves to come to their senses. so there you go, without cursing, without "rancor", i cannot fathom how adults suspend their disbelief, their critical thinking faculties, to believe such clear nonsense. it seems self evident under the slightest scrutiny and if you're being intellectually honest with yourself.
